Like No Other Gallery
The Lipstick Lex Gallery is unlike any other gallery in Sarasota you’ve ever been to. It is completely extraordinary in the type of art that it houses in addition to the events and performances that take place within these walls! This is not your typical intimidating, high-brow gallery. Instead the notion of the words “art gallery” have taken on a completely fresh and progressive approach here in this fun and funky space!
The Gallery Location
The Lipstick Lex Gallery and studio is a few blocks from downtown Sarasota in the Rosemary District. In-between Lemon Ave and Central Ave and just North of Fruitville Road, you will find it tucked right next to Lolita Tartine and right behind The Overton. It is surrounded by coffee shops, cheese shops, cafes, beer gardens, restaurants, art galleries, and yoga and dance studios, to just name a few!
About the Space
The 2600 square foot space was originally a Ford dealership in 1927, the Ace Theater (the first black performance theater) and also once a church. Lex loves the history of the building and immediately fell in love with the character of the space; from the original contemporary bones that are now adorned with contemporary features, the skylights which allow the natural light to flood in and the polished cement floors. The space was screaming at Lex to make it her workspace where she could create and collaboratively experiment and build her sculptural 3D pieces with her husband, Josh. In addition to utilizing this space to solely work, Lex saw this as a beautifully unique space to draw visitors and locals in to enjoy and invest in her unique art pieces as well as immerse themselves in the unique entertainment and educational experiences the gallery will have to offer.
