Large-Scale MAC Lipstick Preservation Art Tray
One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “What’s your favorite lipstick brand to paint with?”
For me, MAC has always been a favorite—not only personally, but because of their incredible array of colors. Reds, pinks, purples, blues, greens, oranges… when your paint box is a makeup bag, having the whole rainbow matters.
Every MAC tube preserved in this piece was well loved and well used by me to create my lipstick paintings throughout the years. They’ve been dug out, worn down, smudged and stained—and I intentionally left that history visible.
Now, instead of being discarded, they form a kiss-to-kiss border around this massive 30″ metallic tray, turning the remnants of my creative process into an artwork of their own.
Part beauty archive, pop art and functional sculpture, this is a true piece of Lipstick Lex history.
Please note: This piece celebrates evidence of use. Lipstick smudges, wear, residue and variations are intentionally preserved. As with all of my hand-cast pieces, minor resin impurities and micro-bubbles may also occur, particularly where resin meets the waxiness of the lipstick. No two preservation pieces will ever be exactly alike.
